Cries of Hawaii

As a small state in the U.S, citizens of Hawaii are entitled to the same rights that every American is entitled to. What is happening in Otter Creek correctional center in Kentucky in terms of sexual abuse cases is very disappointing to know. The fact that female inmates are being sexually abused in this facility and no actions are taken or at least have not been taken totally contradicts the principles that the country stands for. I recall pledging to a flag that gave justice and liberty to all when i was in primary school. Never had it crossed my mind that this same flag would later contradict these standards. I can asked where is the justice that speaks on behalf of these helpless women from Hawaii who are being abused, and expect no answer because no one is righteous enough to defend these helpless individuals. Could it have been the same case if the abused were New Yorkers for instance? I can go on about asking such questions and no one would care to answer because the issue isn't important enough to deserve a discussion on a T.V show or even in CNN. Kentucky state officials need to take early actions, while officials in Hawaii need to publicize their cries. Just the idea that 81 percent of the guards in a female facility be men while 19 percent are women. This is just a fact that raises my eye brows, and one that individuals should consider.

Death of A success

It’s frightening to know that a resource that the world depends on for survival is limited. When I look at the issue from a religious perspective, I am very afraid. I very afraid because I know the predictions that many such as my friend’s mother have been making could become reality. Although I get scare, I also think about the possibility that these scientific predictions could be inaccurate. Even though I consider these possibilities, deep down in my heart I know they are very slim and unlikely. Could this time be the judgment day that Catholics and other religions have been talking about? Or could it just be a punishment from God himself to the world. There could be many explanations for this punishment if it’s true. One possible reason would be the fact that humanity has mistreated the earth. What this means is that humanity has used the earth to make things that are of no importance. We have used the environment that God himself created to facilitate our lives, and used it to produce materials that bring about our destruction. One result is the fact that we are now running short on oil supply. Because we have used oil to make toxic products that were of no essence we are now facing the consequences. Additionally we are also running short on fish supply, just because we have polluted the sea that God put on earth for us to feed from. We have polluted this ocean with the toxic materials that we have produced. My life is not promised on earth, but what I can do at the moment is pray for forgiveness.

Roots of Global Warming

The cause or the understanding of global warming requires a high level of thinking and a deeper look into history. Many have presented evidence that tie environmental pollution to global warming, but the cause of global warming stretches back in history, during the time of slavery. This thought is proven by Carl Anthony in an Interview, where he states that “When blacks were forced to work the land, the process human domination and the exploitation of nature occurred at exactly the same time”. What this quote is saying is that the earth began to deteriorate at the same time when slavery began. When blacks were forced to cut down trees in plantations, the ecosystem was being destroyed. Deforestation has been mention among the potential causes of global warming according to Al Gore in “An inconvenient truth”. This issue of global warming began because some white individuals felt superior to blacks, and as a result they forced them to work on plantations to make money. The outcomes or even the consequences of this were not acknowledged when they forced black people to work on plantation fields.
As proven by Alan Weisman in the article “The world without us”, and by Carl Anthony in “Ecopsychology and the Deconstruction of Whiteness”, global warming is a psychological issue. This is proven when both course texts express the idea that the earth and nature need to be understood so that we can understand the issue of global warming. Carl Anthony states that “the success of ecopsychology will depend upon its ability to help us understand the voice of the earth”. The word ecopsychology is an environmental study. Anthony is saying that the success of environmental study depends on the understanding of the way the earth works. If we fail to do so, catastrophes like global warming are the results.
